In 2001, Jenny Sanderson approached Amy Rose and asked for her help in creating a short piece of work for a circus cabaret. She wanted to do some aerial work with a rope. After several sessions, we both came to the conclusion that the rope was far more interesting if it never actually achieved suspended verticality, but was used instead to evoke images and text that spoke of ineptitude, limitation and aspiration. Furthermore, we realised that, although fit, Jenny was more gifted as a dramatic fool than as an aerialist. So we worked some more and The Dodo Diaries was made.

The Dodo Diaries toured for two years to arts centres throughout England and received a very positive response. Other people enjoyed our work and we enjoyed our work so we decided to do more work. Since then we have done educational residencies, created celebrations, and produced, directed and performed works of our own and other people’s.
