A highly visual and atmospheric piece of physical theatre, The Dodo Diaries takes audiences on a strange and comic journey combining text, movement and the world of flightless birds, and tells the intriguing story of the
life and death of a Victorian lady explorer.
Julia Logan Montgomery has fallen to her death on a cliff top in India. The
story of her untimely death unfolds through extracts from her diaries and the flashes of memories that come to her in the expansion of time during
her 8.3 second long fall to her death.
"Original, dynamic theatre; combined comic confidence with touching
vulnerability."
The Citizen
The minimal set and atmospheric use of lighting invite the audience to
conjureup the sights and smells of Colonial India, where the solo
performer creates strong visual images transforming into numerous
characters and exotic birds.
The Dodo Diaries also comes with a quirky front of house exhibit of
"recently restored artefacts" from the travels of the fictional Julia Logan
Montgomery. Beautifully crafted, it includes a journal, several rare birds'
eggs, and some as yet "unidentified personal effects" which audiences are
welcome to browse
through before and after the show.
"This is total theatre... Bocadalupa are consummate explorers, true clowns
bringing the challenging complexities of simplicity back onto the stage.
Gorgeously atmospheric"
